What is the alpha brain?

Now, before we dive too far into the Alpha Brain waters, let's take a look at what this smart drug is and how it works.

Overall, there's nothing too complex about Alpha Brain. As one of the largest and most publicized over-the-counter smart medications, the nootropic gained popularity after hitting the market in 2011.

With a slew of celebrity endorsements, Alpha Brain quickly garnered praise from the likes of Joe Rogan.

But the real reason Alpha Brain gained so much popularity... the reason you're curious if Alpha Brain really works:

It's because the smart drug is legitimate.

We're not going to beat around the bush here. This really works. You'll find enormous cognitive benefits from taking Alpha Brain, including:

  • Improved focus
  • Greater memory and retention.
  • Better productivity
  • …And much more!

In addition to all that good stuff, Alpha Brain is one of two nootropics that have been scientifically proven to offer cognitive benefits [1].In a randomized, controlled study, researchers found that Alpha Brain led to significantly better performance on cognitive tasks such as verbal recall and executive functioning.2].

Are these the best smart drugs on the market? I do not think. In my opinion, Modafinil is the best.

Is Alpha Brain ideal for people who are new to using nootropics and looking for something that offers more cognitive enhancement than a cup of coffee?

Yeah!

Alpha Brain is ideal for improving cognition for 4 to 6 hours or more. It works and you will notice an increase in productivity and retention.

Alpha Brain Safety and Side Effects

Great, so the nootropic is effective. But it's sure?

Absolutely. Research has found that Alpha Brain Side Effects are rare (occur in less than 9% of individuals) [2]. When they occur, they are not serious. Alpha Brain side effects may include:

  • Headache
  • Stomachache
  • vivid dreams

Except for dreams, these are basically the same side effects that coffee has.

Alpha Brain Ingredients

Now, this nootropic works and you will find cognitive improvement when using it. But many will wonder why...

Well, for that, we need to take a look at some of the active ingredients in Alpha Brain. Here is a quick list of the main ingredients in Alpha Brain:

  • AC-11 Cat's Claw Extract
  • Alpha-GPC
  • Vitamin B6
  • L-tyrosine
  • L-theanine
  • Oat Straw Extract
  • Bacopa Monnieri
  • Huperzine A
  • L-leucine
  • Vinpocetine

Now, all of these ingredients generate some type of cognitive improvement on the surface. But from a nootropic benefits standpoint, certain ingredients in Alpha Brain offer more than others. With this in mind, let's take a closer look:

  • Huperzine A: There has been quite a bit of research done on “Hup-A” and it has been concluded that it is a potent nootropic. Research in healthy participants and those with cognitive disorders appears to see improvements in cognitive function as a result of taking Hup A [3, 4, 5]
  • Alpha-GPC: This is one of the strongest ingredients in Alpha Brain and a great source of choline. As a precursor to one of the strongest brain chemicals for cognitive enhancement and overall function, this ingredient can do wonders for your mind [6]. It also works well with many other ingredients that appear in this nootropic.
  • Bacopa: This is one of the main ingredients in Alpha Brain and offers a massive cognitive improvement for some. It has been shown to work as a nootropic [7, 8] and many believe this is one of the main reasons why Alpha Brain works. Bacopa is also said to offer stress-relieving properties [9].
  • Vinpocetine: This ingredient is considered a natural nootropic that increases blood flow to the brain and may improve memory in certain people.10]. Many find that vinpocetine also increases alertness and mental clarity. In Alpha Brain, this ingredient eliminates brain fog.

Does the alpha brain work? | What you should know

You're probably still wondering why Alpha Brain works. You may still want to know the details before purchasing a bottle of this product.

For that, we'll have to take a look at the science. instead of me rigmarole and personal stories, let's delve into the studies.

Does Alpha Brain Really Work? Good…

Unlike many nootropics, there is actually one very high quality randomized control trial looking at the effects of Alpha Brain [2]. This is one of the highest quality types of studios you can find. This study found that:

  • Alpha Brain offers a 12% improvement in verbal recall compared to a placebo.
  • The nootropic also offers a 21% faster completion time when looking at the executive function assessment and comparing the results to a baseline.
  • The observed results were replicated in a second study. That means we can be sure the benefits weren't a one-time thing..
  • Finally, side effects were observed and the researchers found that Alpha Brain was just as safe and/or tolerable as the placebo used.

Does Alpha Brain work? Well, according to the study above: yes. Researchers found significant nootropic benefits compared to a placebo.

Another study conducted in Alpha Brain found that verbal memory and overall executive function increased when taking this smart drug [11].

while does work, in my opinion, is not quite as strong as Modafinil and Mind Lab Pro. These are superior options in my opinion. But still, yes, Alpha Brain works.

Can Alpha Brain be taken every day?

So it works. But can you take Alpha Briain every day?

Well you can. Yeah.

So far, no study seems to find negative or addictive qualities.

But at the same time, I probably wouldn't recommend it.

It is not good to depend on something to work. My opinion is that it's great for giving you a boost when you really need to get something done, but it's not ideal for everyday use.

Instead of using it every day, focus on staying healthy, getting good exercise, and sleeping, and then use Alpha Brain occasionally when you want to go into beast mode for a couple of hours to finish a project.

Alternatives to the alpha brain

Are there alternatives to Alpha Brain?

Absolutely. I have written several guides on nootropics that can give you many more ideas for Alpha Brain alternatives. Check out my guide on the best nootropics and the The best nootropics for creativity..

Among those lists, you will definitely be able to find something that suits your needs.

But there are two that I think are especially effective alternatives to Alpha Brain:

  • Modafinil

The first is modafinil.

If you've spent any time on this site, you know I love this stuff. In my opinion, Modafinil is by far the best nootropic for sitting down and working through a lot of work.

Basically, Modafinil is a crazy cognitive enhancer. It is a prescription-only medication in the US and is approved by the FDA to treat sleep disorders. Help with:

  • Sleep disorder in shift work
  • Sleep apnea
  • Narcolepsy

In addition to the uses listed on the label, many users have reported the incredible cognitive boost this type gives you. Scientists have discovered this too: many studies have found that it can improve cognitive function and concentration, as well as improve mood [12].

This boy is my favorite. I usually have a nootropic cycle that I work on to keep things interesting, but Modafinil is absolutely one of my go-tos.

When I'm looking for something other than Alpha Brain, Modafinil is the best available.

Does the alpha brain work? | Verdict

Does Alpha Brain work?
Yes, the science out there offers pretty good evidence that this nootropic offers cognitive benefits. And while there are side effects of Alpha Brain, they are not serious or common.

It is very safe to use.

Can you take Alpha Brain every day? You probably shouldn't.

It's not the most powerful product on the market, but there's no denying that you will find some clear benefits when using Alpha Brain.

As the first nootropic I tried, I still use Alpha Brain to this day. And that's because it still works great!
