Side effects of flmodafinil

Flmodafinil is a relatively new development in the world of nootropics, but it has a lot of promise and potential.

In fact, it may offer some unique advantages to modafinil, such as greater effectiveness, longer-lasting effects, and fewer side effects.

As the test subjects undertake their own research into this exciting new product, Side effects of flmodafinil and security problems may arise.

Read below for a detailed analysis of what to expect.

Fortunately, most research subjects consider Flmodafinil to be a fairly safe reference material and/or nootropic.

What is flmodafinil?

Flmodafinil, also called bisfluoromodafinil, lauflamide, and CRL-40,940, is structurally similar to modafinil, a prescription wakefulness-enhancing agent that is also commonly used as a nootropic.

It has an identical structure, with the addition of two fluoride atoms.According to its creator, this slight change increases the potency of the drug up to four times. Flmodafinil may also have a longer half-life, meaning its effects may last longer.1, 2].

Flmodafinil is not currently a prescription medication, but is in clinical trials for use in narcolepsy and other sleep disorders. Because of this, Flmodafinil can be purchased online quite easily, but this could change at any time if it were approved for prescription use or if regulations governing compounds that are structurally similar to prescription drugs changed.

Benefits of flmodafinil

Extrapolating from what we know about Modafinil, here are some of the potential benefits of Flmodafinil:

  • Increased and long-lasting energy: If it works similarly to Modafinil, Flmodafinil may improve wakefulness in subjects with sleep disorders, increase energy in subjects with fatigue, and neutralize some of the harmful effects of lack of sleep.3, 4, 5, 6, 7].
  • Better memory and learning skills: It may also help improve memory, attention, and learning skills in both healthy subjects and those with depression.8, 9].
  • Better mood and more motivation: Animal studies show improvements in motivation and drive with the use of Modafinil, while it may also serve to improve mood in healthy people [10, 11].
  • Intense focus and concentration: Whether a subject is sleep deprived or getting enough sleep, Modafinil can help improve concentration, and Flmodafinil likely works in a similar manner [12, 13].

Again, much of what we “know” about Flmodafinil is based on what we have learned about Modafinil. Flmodafinil has only been around since 2013 and has been in clinical trials since 2015. Hopefully, we will know a lot more about this compound soon.

flmodafinil side effects

Side effects and safety of flmodafinil

Because Flmodafinil is relatively new and still in clinical safety and efficacy trials, we don't really have much information to report on its known and proven side effects.

However, since Flmodafinil is the bisfluoroanalogue of Modafinil, the two are very similar structurally and therefore may have similar side effects. Additionally, the creator of Flmodafinil reports in his patent that this newer compound has fewer and milder side effects than Modafinil. This is supported by anecdotal reports from research subjects who have also used Modafinil and Flmodafinil.

These are some of the most common side effects that research subjects may experience with Flmodafinil.

Insomnia

Like Modafinil, Flmodafinil is a wake-promoting agent designed for use in subjects with sleep disorders. In fact, when a research subject is administered either compound at the end of the day, they may find tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep later that night [14].

This is why most eugeroic researchers recommend administering flmodafinil first thing in the morning.

Headache

A fairly frequently reported side effect of modafinil is headache, so we can assume that flmodafinil may also cause headaches in some subjects.

However, we have seen conflicting reports from research subjects who experienced headache after taking flodafinil. In fact, on Reddit, we even saw a Modafinil user who had been experiencing headaches, which had stopped when that subject underwent Flmodafinil treatment.

Anxiety

Anxiety is sometimes a side effect of these types of brain-enhancing compounds, but fortunately many Flmodafinil research subjects report that its effects are very “clean”: no anxiety or infatuation, just energy, focus, and drive.

Gastrointestinal disorders

We know that several gastrointestinal side effects are attributed to the use of Modafinil, such as nausea, diarrhea, constipation, gas, heartburn, or decreased appetite.14].

In fact, decreased appetite is a commonly reported side effect of many nootropics and stimulants.

To avoid other unpleasant gastrointestinal symptoms, we find that research subjects often start with a very low dose and increase slowly.

Drug interactions

Modafinil may interact with blood thinners, antidepressants, certain antifungal medications, anticonvulsants, and anti-anxiety medications. Flmodafinil may have similar drug interactions, although we cannot be sure at this time.14].

Either way, people with any medical conditions or who are taking any prescription medications are advised to avoid flodafinil.

Other security concerns

As with any other medication or dietary supplement, prescription or over-the-counter, research subjects should be well informed about all safety concerns that may apply to them.

Any subject who is pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid the use of Flmodafinil. Additionally, no one under the age of 18 should use the compound.

Subjects may want to avoid drinking caffeine while taking Flmodafinil because Flmodafinil is itself a stimulant. Additionally, subjects should avoid the consumption of alcohol or mind-altering substances when using flmodafinil.

Likewise, Flmodafinil may have the same addictive qualities as Modafinil. For this reason, research subjects are advised not to take it more than 2-3 times per week as a nootropic and to take regular breaks from all nootropic use.

However, in general, flmodafinil appears to be safe for otherwise healthy subjects.

Flmodafinil Dosage Side Effects

The creator of Flmodafinil has stated that it is up to four times stronger than Modafinil. However, in practice, most research subjects report it to be about twice or perhaps 1.5 times the potency of modafinil.

In view of this, subjects should be careful with dosing. Our own dosing guideline is that the standard dose of Flmodafinil should be between one quarter and one half of a standard dose of Modafinil.

12.5 mg-25 mg daily

We found this low dose to be popular with absolute beginner subjects. As far as we know, healthy subjects are unlikely to experience negative side effects at such a low dose.

Additionally, if a subject finds this low dose effective, he or she may be able to take it more than 2 or 3 times a week when needed.

50-100 mg per day

This intermediate dose of Flmodafinil is based on the standard 200 mg dose of Modafinil. This amount seems to be adequate for most subjects, especially those who have used nootropics like Modafinil before.

Subjects may or may not experience some of the side effects listed above with this dose. Our practice is to administer this dose early in the morning. We do not administer flodafinil more than 2 to 3 times a week at this dose.

150 mg per day or more

This dose is approximately equivalent to 300 mg or more of Modafinil per day, which we would NOT consider administering. Some nootropic users take 300 mg of modafinil to stay up all night, so a very likely side effect of this high dose is insomnia. And of course, the higher the dose, the greater the risk of a subject experiencing other side effects as well.

Microdosing

Based on our observations, microdosing Flmodafinil is a good way to experience constant energy and avoid side effects. It involves administering small microdoses every 4-6 hours throughout the day. Depending on each person's level of experience and their response to nootropics, we found that subjects can successfully microdose between 3 mg and 25 mg of flmodafinil, 4 times a day, up to 3 times a week. As always, we recommend starting slowly and working your way up to an optimal dosage.

Flmodafinil versus modafinil

By now you know that Flmodafinil and Modafinil have many similarities. However, here are some of the key ways they differ:

  • Structure: Flmodafinil is identical to Modafinil, with the addition of two fluoride units.
  • Effects: Although their effects are similar, flmodafinil is believed to be 1.5 to 4 times stronger than modafinil and to have a longer half-life (meaning it stays in the body longer).
  • Security: Flmodafinil may have fewer side effects than Modafinil, but we are still waiting for clinical trial results.
  • Prescription status: Modafinil is a prescription medication. Flmodafinil is not currently a prescription drug, but it is being studied for possible approval by the FDA, so this could change.
  • Body of research: We know much more about the safety and effectiveness of modafinil than we do about flmodafinil.
  • Cost: Surprisingly, Flmodafinil can be more expensive than Modafinil in most cases. It is stronger and has a newer formulation.
