modafinil powder

Many nootropics, or “smart drugs” that improve cognition, are available in powder form, so you may be wondering if modafinil powder is available.

But despite some of the benefits of using powdered forms, there are also some drawbacks. Modafinil is a nootropic agent that is not widely available in powder form for several reasons.

Here's what you need to know about modafinil powder.

What is modafinil?

Modafinil is a wakefulness agent used to promote alertness in people with sleep disorders such as narcolepsy, sleep apnea, and shift work sleep disorder. It helps people with these conditions stay awake during the day (or during their shift) thanks to its mild stimulating effect [1].

As a prescription, it is approved for these purposes. However, many doctors also offer off-label prescriptions for conditions such as depression, substance addiction, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).2, 3].

Additionally, modafinil offers a number of cognition-enhancing benefits that make it a popular nootropic. In addition to the alertness it provides, it can also help improve focus and concentration, productivity, and executive functioning (decision making and task performance) [4, 5].

Modafinil was first developed in France and currently the brand name version, Provigil, is owned by Cephalon Labs.

Modafinil Side Effects and Safety

According to the US National Library of Medicine, possible side effects of modafinil include [6]:

  • "headache
  • dizziness
  • difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
  • drowsiness
  • nausea
  • diarrhea
  • constipation
  • gas
  • acidity
  • loss of appetite
  • unusual tastes
  • dry mouth
  • excessive thirst
  • nosebleed
  • redness
  • perspiration
  • tight muscles or difficulty moving
  • Back pain
  • confusion
  • uncontrollable shaking of a part of your body
burning, tingling, or numbness of the skin
  • difficulty seeing or pain in the eyes

Among nootropic researchers, the most commonly reported side effects appear to be headache, insomnia, and loss of appetite. Some subjects say that their loss of appetite is the result of being too focused on the task at hand to remember to eat.

To help relieve insomnia, it is also important to administer modafinil first thing in the morning so that the effects are not still felt at bedtime.

Additionally, the US National Library of Medicine says that the following serious side effects, if experienced, require immediate medical attention:

  • "rash
  • blisters
  • peel skin
  • mouth ulcers
  • urticaria
  • itching
  • hoarseness
  • difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
  • chest pain
  • fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat
  • frantic and abnormally excited mood
  • hallucinate (see things or hear voices that do not exist)
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • thinking about killing you or hurting you”

Modafinil should not be administered to children under 18 years of age, or to pregnant or lactating women, unless the medication has been prescribed for them by a doctor with knowledge of their situation and medical needs.

Additionally, modafinil may have several drug interactions, so it is important to proceed with caution (and with doctor approval) for people who have existing medical conditions or are taking prescription medications.

Finally, modafinil should not be mixed with other stimulants, alcohol, illicit drugs, or high doses of caffeine.

modafinil powder

While powder forms of nootropics tend to offer faster absorption and a shorter wait time before you start to feel the effects, modafinil is one for which the powder form is not recommended, nor is it even available for your purchase.

Modafinil is generally only available as a pill that you swallow or as a sublingual tablet (that dissolves under the tongue). Even then, the sublingual route of administration is not widely used. Generally, most nootropic researchers administer 100 mg or 200 mg pills.

Bulk powder modafinil used to be sold by India-based pharmaceutical manufacturer Sun Pharmaceuticals, but it is no longer available and hasn't been for about 10 years. Although modafinil powder may currently be for sale on other websites, it is important to critically evaluate these websites and understand that what they offer is probably not legitimate and is not safe.

These are the reasons why modafinil in powder form is not recommended.

Availability

As we just mentioned, modafinil powder is no longer available from any modafinil manufacturer that we are familiar with (and have researched). However, even if it were, here are some of the other drawbacks and reasons why we strongly don't recommend it.

Dosing Concerns

Modafinil powder requires precise dosing and requires a scale capable of measuring milligrams in order to dose correctly. Under no circumstances should you “watch” a dose of any nootropic agent, not just modafinil. In amounts as small as when it comes to milligrams, it can be easy to double or even triple the dose without realizing it, unless you have a milligram scale.

Additionally, a precise way to administer the full dose of the powder is needed, which can be a problem due to the physical properties of modafinil.

Insolubility in water

Modafinil is not water soluble, so it will not dissolve in water. This makes taking powdered modafinil a challenge, as the easiest route for most powders is to mix them with a liquid.7].

Additionally, alternative methods of taking modafinil powder, such as snorting, are not recommended for several of the same reasons.

Shipping Concerns

While many nootropic researchers can successfully receive shipments of modafinil tablets, powders, especially bulk powders, can be a completely different story. These packages will attract more attention and scrutiny, so they may end up being seized at many different points in the shipping process.

Adulteration

Finally, another major concern with powders is that they may be adulterated with substances other than modafinil.None of the major Indian pharmaceutical companies that produce modafinil generics offer modafinil powder, so you should be skeptical whenever you see it on sale.

Modafinil Powder | Verdict

Modafinil is an alertness drug, but it also provides other benefits related to concentration and productivity, making it a popular nootropic.

However, modafinil in powder form is not recommended. It is no longer available from any manufacturer that we know of, and even if it were difficult to dose and administer safely due to its insolubility in water, it is more likely to be seized during shipping and be adulterated or impure.

For these reasons, it is best to opt for modafinil pills or sublingual tablets from reliable sources, such as Buy Moda.
